What Makes Us
Living Waters Church

Mission

We are a community that loves God, loves and disciples people, and glorifies Jesus through everything we do.

Vision

We are a community that loves God, loves and disciples people, and glorifies Jesus through everything we do.

Our Core Values

  • We love God and others.

  • We are grounded in the Scriptures, we live according to what the Word of God teaches us.

  • We are genuine, we worship and serve God as a way of life and we do it with all our hearts.

Our Partnership with Acts 29

At Living Water Community, we are committed to planting a healthy, gospel-centered church in Horquetas de Sarapiquí. As part of this commitment, we are currently in the final stage of the assessment process to formally join Acts 29, a global network of church planting churches.

Our Beliefs

We believe in one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — co-equal and co-eternal. God the Father is the Creator and Sovereign over all. Jesus Christ is completely God and completely man, the only Savior, whose life, death, and resurrection provide redemption. The Holy Spirit convicts, regenerates, empowers, and sanctifies believers.

We affirm that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. Humanity was created in God's image but has fallen and needs salvation only through Christ. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

We believe in repentance, faith, and the transforming power of the gospel. The Holy Spirit equips believers with spiritual gifts for ministry and witness. The Church is the Body of Christ, called to worship God, make disciples, and bring transformation through the gospel.

Marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, reflecting Christ's love for His Church. We affirm the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper for all genuine believers. We eagerly await the glorious return of Christ, the resurrection, final judgment, and the renewal of all creation.

About Leadership

At Living Water Community, we believe that the local church should be led by a plurality of elders — a group of biblically qualified men who shepherd, teach, and lead the church together under the authority of Christ, the Chief Shepherd.

This conviction comes from the consistent pattern we see in the New Testament, where churches were established and overseen not by a single leader, but by a team of elders (Acts 14:23, Titus 1:5, Philippians 1:1). These elders are called to be examples to the flock, devoted to prayer and the ministry of the Word, and accountable to one another.

We reject authoritarian or individualistic leadership models in favor of shared pastoral responsibility that reflects both humility and wisdom. This structure fosters unity, mutual accountability, and spiritual maturity in the life of the church.

About the Álvarez Family

Warner and Gaby Álvarez have been married for 10 years and are parents to a son named Santiago. Both have professional backgrounds , Warner in journalism and Gaby in nutrition, but have dedicated much of their lives to serving the Lord since their youth.

Warner has over 20 years of experience in worship ministry. He has served as worship pastor at DC Church in Costa Rica, and as worship leader at Vibrant Life Church and The Crossing Church in the United States. Additionally, he completed his pastoral and church planting residency at The Church of Eleven22 in Jacksonville, Florida, where the family lived for five years.

With a deep sense of calling, they returned to Costa Rica with the vision of planting Living Water Community, a gospel-centered church that seeks to bring hope and spiritual transformation to the community of Horquetas de Sarapiquí.
